How to test if ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity know your business

ChatGPT is a good place to start, but test more than one tool. You are not able to improve what you do not measure. A GEO test takes 20 minutes. Run the test before you change anything, so you have a baseline to compare against.

Why you should test ChatGPT first

Test ChatGPT first because many buyers already use it for research. Then repeat each prompt in Gemini and Perplexity. The three tools pull from different sources, so your results will differ. Perplexity lists its sources, which shows you where to get listed. Google’s helpful content guidance shows what quality signals look like.

Step 1: Build your prompt list

Write ten questions your buyers ask. Mix three types:

  • Direct: “What is [your business name]?” Tests whether the tool knows you exist.
  • Category: “Who offers [service] in Suriname?” Tests whether the tool names you among providers.
  • Problem: “How do I get more clients for my [industry] company in Suriname?” Tests whether your content shapes the advice.

Use wording a real buyer would type. Skip marketing language.

Step 2: Run each prompt in three tools

Use ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity. Open a fresh chat each time so earlier answers do not shape the next one. Copy each response into a spreadsheet. Record the date.

Step 3: Score the answers

  • Named with correct details: 3 points
  • Named with some details wrong: 1 point
  • Not named: 0 points

Flag every wrong detail. Wrong addresses, old services, and mixed-up company names point to a data problem you are able to fix.

Step 4: Record who appears instead of you

Note each competitor and each source the tool cites. Perplexity shows its sources clearly. The sources show where to get listed. If three responses cite the same directory and you are absent from the directory, you found a clear next task.

Step 5: Repeat monthly

Keep the same ten prompts. Track the score in a spreadsheet. Answers vary between runs, so look at the trend across several months, not one result. Run each prompt twice if you want a steadier read.

What to do with the results

  • Low on direct prompts means your basics are weak. Fix your homepage, About page, and listings.
  • Low on category prompts means you lack authority signals. Build reviews, case studies, and mentions.
  • Low on problem prompts means you need more helpful content. Publish answer-first articles.

Limits of the test

Results depend on location, account history, and tool updates. Your test shows a pattern, not a guarantee. Some tools also offer paid monitoring. Start with the manual test. Buy a tracker only if the manual process becomes too slow.

Share the baseline with your team. Everyone then sees the same starting point and the same goal.

Sample prompt list

Use these as a starting point and swap in your details:

  1. What is [business name] and what does the company do?
  2. Who are the best [service] providers in Paramaribo?
  3. Which [industry] companies in Suriname do B2B work?
  4. How much does [service] cost in Suriname?
  5. How do I choose a [service] provider in Suriname?

Add five more from your sales calls. Real buyer wording gives the most useful results.

Log template

Use one row per prompt and tool. Columns: date, tool, prompt, named (yes or no), details correct (yes or no), competitors named, sources cited. Ten prompts across three tools make thirty rows per round. The sheet takes minutes to fill once you have a routine.

Run the ChatGPT test again in 30 days and compare the scores. For the next step, read how we connect visibility to booked calls in our post on AI automations for B2B lead generation in Suriname.
